Sunspots
I took this photo of the sun last night through a special solar lens filter. If you look at the upper left side, you will see a sunspot (sunspots are caused by magnetic solar flares). In order to make sure that it wasn’t just something on my lens, I took multiple comparison photos, and I checked NASA’s website. Sure enough, it matches!
Some interesting facts:
- The sun is 93 million miles away from the earth.
- At the time of capture, the image was already 8 minutes old. That is how long it takes light to travel 93 million miles.
- The small sunspot is dozens of times larger than planet earth.
The filter I used for this photo is the same filter I used to take eclipse photos in August. It’s really interesting to see what it can capture!
